Wondering · Works

Your Windows keyboard. On your Mac.

换到 Mac,不必让双手重新学习。

Windows Keyboard for Mac keeps familiar Windows-keyboard shortcuts on the external keyboards you choose, without changing the built-in Apple keyboard. It is free, open source and designed to be completely reversible.

Free and open source · Requires macOS 15 or newer and Karabiner-Elements 16 or newer
The button opens the release page on GitHub — download the file named Windows-Keyboard-for-Mac-…zip.

做了什么 What it does
Everyday

The shortcuts your hands already know

Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+X, Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+S and Ctrl+A work the Windows way. Alt+Tab switches apps, Alt+F4 closes the active top-level window, and familiar screenshot combinations reach the corresponding macOS tools.

Device scope

Only the keyboards you choose

The installer enrolls selected physical USB or Bluetooth Windows keyboards by their reported device IDs. The MacBook keyboard, Apple keyboards, virtual keyboards and unselected keyboards remain unchanged.

Apps

Finder and Terminal get context, not blunt remaps

Finder receives Windows-style rename, open, delete, move and Backspace behavior without breaking filename or search-field editing. Terminal keeps real Ctrl+C interrupts and adds familiar Ctrl+Shift copy, paste, tab and window shortcuts.

Keys

Function keys and window movement stay predictable

F1 through F12 remain standard function keys on the selected Windows keyboard. Win+Arrow uses native macOS window tiling, so no additional window-management utility is required for the published profile.

Safety

Reversible by design

Installation begins with conflict checks and a backup. The project verifies the live profile, provides a diagnostic command, and can restore the previous configuration if activation or removal fails.

Privacy

Nothing leaves the Mac

There is no account, telemetry, analytics or bundled personal-app shortcut. The mapping and diagnostics run locally, and every generated Karabiner rule is readable in the open-source repository.

安装 Getting started

Early-tester preview. Current releases are unsigned and require macOS 15 or newer, Karabiner-Elements 16 or newer, and a standard physical Windows keyboard. macOS will ask the user to approve Karabiner's Input Monitoring, Accessibility, background-service and DriverKit access.

  1. Install and open Karabiner-Elements, then approve the permissions macOS requests.
  2. Connect the Windows keyboard and download the latest Windows Keyboard for Mac release.
  3. Extract the ZIP, Control-click install.command, choose Open, and select the keyboard or keyboards to convert.

Which file do I download?

The GitHub release page lists four items. Only the first one is the app — the other three are there for people reading or verifying the code.

  • Windows-Keyboard-for-Mac-…zip — this is the one to download. It contains the installer, the add-keyboard, uninstall and diagnostic commands, the Karabiner profile, the documentation and an offline copy of the interactive demo.
  • Windows-Keyboard-for-Mac-…zip.sha256 — an optional checksum file for confirming the ZIP downloaded intact. Skip it unless you want to verify the download.
  • Source code (zip) and Source code (tar.gz) — added automatically by GitHub to every release. They hold the raw project files rather than a ready-to-run package, so they are not what you want for installing.

Installing and enrolling a keyboard

The quick start walks through Karabiner-Elements, the permissions macOS asks for, and choosing which keyboards to convert. Every shortcut the profile defines is listed in the shortcut matrix.

A shortcut isn't behaving

Run doctor.command from the release folder. It checks that Karabiner-Elements is running, that the profile is live, and that the keyboard you enrolled is the one macOS is seeing. Include its output when you report a problem.

Rolling back or removing it

Run uninstall.command from the release folder. It restores the configuration that was backed up before installation. The built-in Apple keyboard is never modified, so it needs nothing to be undone.

Reporting an issue

Issues are best filed on GitHub so the fix is visible to everyone — include your macOS version, the keyboard model, the app, and the key combination involved.
